According to the press release of the Highway Administration, the value of the contract is 17.5 million. euros with VAT. The work must be completed within 8 months after the contract takes effect. This period does not include an annual technological break of 3 months. The contract was signed in 2020. on October 28 and the metro entered into force. on November 11, when the contractor submitted a letter of guarantee that met the requirements of the contracting documents.
Seven tenders were submitted to the tender, which were evaluated based on economic efficiency, when the best offer was selected, taking into account the relationship of price and quality criteria. In this contracting, the qualitative criteria are the term of execution of the works in months from the entry into force of the contracting contract, the additional duration of the legal guarantee period in years and the price.
According to Remigijus Lipkevičius, head of the Lithuanian Highway Administration, the implementation of the project will improve road safety, as solutions that reduce the risk of traffic accidents will be implemented.
After the reconstruction of the section of the main highway A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda from 102.70 to 107.00 km, a one-level intersection will be removed, eliminating the possibility of collisions, connecting roads and other engineering measures that ensure traffic safety and proper traffic organization.
The aforementioned stretch of road is part of the Via Baltica trans-European network development project and, after reconstruction, will comply with international technical and safety standards. The project is funded by the European Union’s Road Development and Maintenance Program and investments.
The Vilnius-Klaipėda section in Kaunas will be rebuilt by the Lithuanian company Autokausta together with the Polish INTOP Warszawa.
The BNS Highway Administration specified that a viaduct will be built on the current turn of the highway near Giraite, installing a two-level intersection.
