According to the CEC president, 1,371 self-isolating voters voted at mobile points and 835 citizens registered and expressed their desire to vote at home due to mandatory self-isolation.
When asked if during the second round of the Seimas elections there would be no problems for residents in self-isolation who wish to vote at home to carry out their civic will, L. Matjošaitytė hoped that the situation that had caused a stir two weeks ago would not be repeat.
ELTA recalls that during the first round of the Seimas elections, many criticisms and reactions from the heads of state became public history, when a part of the people in self-isolation did not have the opportunity to vote in the Seimas elections.
To prevent similar misunderstandings from being repeated, L. Matjošaitytė told Eltai that a clear system had been followed, which provides for how commission representatives should behave if they cannot be found when they arrive at the indicated address of an isolated citizen.
“We have a clear system of how the members of the electoral commissions should behave, which are at least 2 and who are representatives of different political parties, if they cannot find it when they go to the voter’s home. If the voter cannot be reached by the specified contact telephone number, this information is recorded by the committee members at the end of the day via e. hand over to the police. And then they decide why the person who should be isolated is not where he should be, ”explained L. Matjošaitytė to Eltai.
“This helps to avoid the interpretations that arose during the first round of the Seimas elections,” he stressed, and said that the police had already been informed that several people who should have been in self-isolation were not found in the indicated place.
“As far as we learned from the commissions, the police officers were already informed during the second round that the people who were in self-isolation had not been found,” he said.
Citizen complaints are inevitable
However, L. Matjošaitytė admitted, certain misunderstandings also arise during the second round. According to her, the CEC has already received a complaint and several inquiries from citizens in self-isolation, who alleged that they did not receive members of the commission. However, noted L. Matjošaitytė, the reactions of citizens were caused by mistakes not made by the CEC.
“For example, a person in self-isolation registered to vote at home. He thought there would be a vote at home on Thursday, but the law provided for Friday and Saturday. He wrote a complaint about it. We explained everything to him and the person understood, ”said L. Matjošaitytė.
According to the CEC president, there were also inquiries from those who registered to vote at home, who, having not received CEC representatives until noon, asked if all was well in their voting capacity.
“All this shows that those who are in self-isolation are waiting for the members of the electoral commissions and it is very good that they are informing us. But the members of the commissions still have two days, ”explained the president of the CEC.
There are cases in which voters who vote in isolation mock members of the commission.
According to L. Matjošaitytė, there are situations in which it is difficult to understand and explain the behavior of voters in self-isolation. According to the head of the CCA, during the second round of the Seimas elections, there were cases in which the members of the commissions – who had come to the right place to vote – were simply ridiculed.
“They make fun of how they are dressed, how they look, they ask what they came for, even though the voters themselves said they wanted to vote at home,” said L. Matjošaitytė.
“It just came to our knowledge then. The members of the electoral commissions try to do everything, they try to wear the necessary protective equipment during said vote according to the decision of the chief of operations … I think we should be more empathetic and understand that it is not easy for the members of the electoral commission and it did not occur to them. “Go to the polls,” said the head of the CCA.
About 10 infractions of the electoral campaign were registered
L. Matjošaitytė noted that after the election campaign ban came into effect on Saturday night, about 10 reports of possible violations had already been received.
“Today and until tomorrow at 8 pm a ban on agitation is applied. Electoral agitation is prohibited by any means. So far, we have about 10 publications related to agitation online. First, political advertising on networks would be paid social media or in electronic newspapers. The information is currently being verified, “said L. Matjošaitytė.
