“Our hearts go out to the families of two community members who were stabbed to death during an attack on Grace Baptist Church in the center of town,” Liccard said in a Twitter post Sunday night.
The San José Police Department reported via Twitter that officers had been notified of an attack by a person armed with a knife at Grace Baptist Church. The department confirmed the deaths of two people and said several more had been injured and that some of the injured were in critical condition.
Liccardo wrote in his message that the police had arrested the alleged attacker.
Police reported that the attack did not take place during religious services, but at that time homeless people gathered in the church to protect them from the cold.
