On the morning of February 21, a thirteen-year-old boy living in Yliai village, Raseiniai district, near his home, was startled to see him. Near the forest, he saw a stuck car, a VW Passat, and a dead man lying on the ground next to him.
Police officers who rushed to the scene found the dead man to be a 59-year-old taxi driver. His neck was scratched. There was a suspicion that the man had been murdered.
After launching a pre-trial investigation into the murder, Šiauliai County Police Felony Investigation Officers, along with colleagues from Raseiniai and specialists from the Criminal Investigation Service, took action that yielded quick results: the identity of the potential suspect and was arrested.
He was an Ariogali who sometimes uses the services of a taxi driver, who is well known to law enforcement for his criminal past. He has been repeatedly convicted of theft, robbery, fraud, and other crimes. In late September last year, the man was released from a correctional facility after serving his last sentence for robbery in 2018.
On the night of February 20, while intoxicated, he asked the taxi driver to take him from Ariogala to Raseiniai. But in reality, the man had different plans. Knowing that the taxi driver had the money, he decided to kidnap them.
It is suspected that while driving in the village of Yliai, the suspect fulfilled his intentions: he strangled the taxi driver, kidnapped about 300 euros and, removing the victim from the car, drove to the service station. Here he cleared the way to reach his acquaintance who lives in the Raseiniai district.
It turned out that he needed to go back the same way he had come.
Passing through the scene, he decided to ditch the car and leave it with the lying killer. After that, he took a walk with his acquaintance who lived in the Raseiniai district and spent the whole night here in his society and the alcohol one. Well, the officers put handcuffs on the Ariolian who hadn’t made it up to date and he bragged.
