Law enforcement officials say the bribe amounts were included in the price of medical devices purchased by patients, so when they bought them, patients paid bribes to doctors without even knowing it.

The accusations – a pharmaceutical company and 11 people
The pre-trial investigation, in which charges were brought against a legal person, a pharmaceutical company and 11 natural persons, was conducted by officials from the Šiauliai Board of the Special Investigation Service (STT). A total of 200 volumes of criminal cases transferred to an indictment court.
For this pre-trial investigation, the General Prosecutor’s Office had formed a special investigation group of prosecutors from the Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys regional prosecutor’s offices and officials from all territorial subdivisions of the STT.
During the judicial investigation, a criminal corruption scheme was identified, which allegedly involved representatives of a pharmaceutical company and doctors from various medical institutions in the country. Twelve employees of this pharmaceutical company are suspected of operating in an organized group. Some of the members of this group – the managers of the company – may have agreed with the doctors of the medical institutions of the cities and districts where they serve to recommend patients to buy for an illegal fee and then inject the products distributed by your company.
On Monday, Artūras Karpalovas, Chief Prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor’s Office, and Vaidas Pupelis, Head of the Šiauliai Board of the Special Investigation Service (STT), commented on the situation to journalists .
According to them, the disclosed corruption scheme involved representatives of the information company and doctors from various medical institutions.
“During the pre-trial investigation, a corruption scheme was revealed. Representatives of a pharmaceutical company and doctors from various medical institutions. It is suspected that he acted in an organized group. <...> The doctors received bribes that ranged from 15 to 102 euros for the crime. At that time, it was calculated in litas, ”said STT Board Chief Šiauliai.
Prosecutor Artūras Karpalovas revealed that there are 11 natural persons and 1 legal entity in the case.
“These persons, legal persons and 7 natural persons, are accused of systematically bribing the employees of medical and medical institutions for their recommended and injected products while working in the organizing group. The total amount of the transferred bribe exceeds 74 thousand. euros.
Some of the company employees and the company itself are accused of fraudulent accounting. Some of the funds were not included in the case records. The funds were used for bribes. 4 doctors are also referred to the courts, some of them – ex. They are accused of bribery.
The pre-trial investigation process itself had satisfactory results. Several doctors pleaded guilty, helped with the investigation, revealed the plan, the facts. In light of these circumstances, the relevant provisions on immunity from criminal proceedings have been adopted.
