The president pointed out that the rulers, when making decisions, are showing insecurity and distraction, failing to plan the steps for the future, speaking of fruitless pieces and disobedience. This is a reasonable criticism of those in power, and we see it all today. We must rely more on the people and the political elite, to face the pains of the people, not to oppress society in the name of narrow political deductions ”, says V. Blinkevičiūtė.

According to the leader of the Social Democrats, the president analyzes many problems from his left positions in his annual report.

“And that means taking a sensitive approach to people’s lives and seeing how painfully the pandemic has affected many citizens. The crisis has highlighted the problems and importance of the welfare state. We see some accounting profits that have increased during the crisis, rejoicing in the new ferries and yachts, while most people are barely making ends meet.

It is a clear message for the rulers that we must stop playing power games, classify people as “own” and “foreign”. Stop covering up the pandemic and finally give a real solution to the problems that are relevant to many people, ”says V. Blinkevičiūtė.

He is so hopeful that the ruling authorities will take into account the opinion of many Lithuanians and the president’s proposal to legalize direct mayoral elections in the Constitution as soon as possible.

“It would be very unwise if the political forces did not agree. People are in favor of direct mayoral elections. The most important thing for them is to know what they are collecting. There is very little time left in the Constitution to legitimize mayors. directly elected, we have to have a decision to change the Constitution by the middle of next year. We Social Democrats have made concrete proposals, “adds V. Blinkevičiūtė.

On Tuesday, President G. Nausėda read his second annual report in the Seimas. According to the provisions of the country’s Constitution, in the annual reports the president analyzes the situation in the country and the domestic and foreign policy of Lithuania.
