Marekas Blaževičius, redeemed by Kaunas “Žalgiris”, visited the island of Nemunas, where he connected his future with the team of Lithuanian champions with a three-year contract. During the visit, the 18-year-old also inspected the conditions of the Žalgiris team in the arena and tested the arches in the training room.
“It’s impressive, that’s all I can say,” said Blaževičius with a smile.
The talent who grew up in Vilnius’ Rytas pyramid left the capital after Žalgiris paid a ransom. Kaunas invited the young middle forward to themselves two years ago, but then the Vilnius resident decided to continue his development in Vilnius.
“I think I was too young, I had to finish school, I took responsibility for the family,” Blaževičius said of Žalgiris TV’s decision at the time. – My parents asked me to finish school correctly, that was one of their requests. I did it and Žalgiris continued to interest me. ”
Blaževičius revealed that he had almost decided to transfer his career abroad this season, but the meeting with the representatives of “Žalgiris” made him change his mind. The basketball player made no secret that he was most impressed by Šarūnas Jasikevičius’s opening.
“The impression remained on human qualities,” said Blaževičius. – First, openness, then how he unrealistically understands basketball and, third, how he is an ordinary person. Next to the field it may seem horrible to yell at everyone, but there is a simple and sincere person. I really enjoyed its opening. “
The striker, who took advantage of his chances at Ryte last season, excelled in the Lithuanian derby between Vilnius and Kaunas. Turning into a whirlwind of passions, Blaževičius played energetically and was brimming with emotions.
Last year, during one of the meetings, an incident occurred between Blaževičius and Paulius Jankūnas, who hit the opponent’s elbow while fighting for the ball. LKL issued a strict warning to the Žalgiris captain.
“I fought for the ball and got an elbow for being pretty strong before,” Blaževičius recalled the episode. – Everything is normal, an episode of the game. I think everything will be fine with that. I will never give up on my opponent and I will always leave my heart on the field. ”
With what expectations does Blaževičius come to Kaunas?
“The Euroleague is one step closer to my main American goal.” It will be easier for me to adapt to that. This is all a great challenge. I’ve matured, my goals have grown, my love for basketball has increased. “
