“I fully understand the emotions that naturally arise when looking at the reports from yesterday’s grand music awards event.

Should events of this magnitude occur at a time when, to protect people from the rapidly spreading varieties of Covid-19, stay home and avoid contact?

But since it already happened, then the question arises whether everything was done in accordance with the security requirements set by the Government. Yesterday, after receiving the first signs of possible violations during the MAMA event, I immediately contacted the responsible officials and asked them to take all necessary actions and verify the situation. Police have received dozens of reports of rapes, the circumstances are now under investigation. Thanks to all the indifferent citizens who respond and report.

The situation of the pandemic in our country is very serious. Movement restrictions, which are a temporary and necessary measure to reduce contact, should apply to everyone. Exceptions apply only to those provided for by a government resolution. There can be no other exceptions. Anyone who violates the requirements of the quarantine regime will have to take responsibility. And I really would like more understanding and sensitivity towards other members of society, “wrote the interior minister on Facebook.

Police clarify the situation regarding the MAMA awards

The police are investigating the situation regarding the MAMA awards that were held on Saturday night and caused public outrage.

“Due to the MAMA awards event held in Kaunas, Žalgiris Arena yesterday, the Kaunas Police have started to clarify the circumstances, all the collected material will be evaluated and decisions will be made. Thank you all for your citizenship, “wrote the Lithuanian police on Facebook.

Ramūnas Matonis, Chief of the Police Department’s Communication Department, said his Kaunas police received around 30 reports of possible rapes at the event on Saturday.

“All the circumstances will be reviewed and it will be determined what violations there were, who violated them, and then there will be different decisions,” R. Matonis told BNS.

In the Žalgiris arena, the event took place without spectators, its organizers announced that all participants had been tested for COVID-19 before the event, but there was outrage in the public sphere that the quarantine rules were not followed. Some politicians called the event a “plague party.”

Ieva Pakarklytė, the elder from the Freedom Faction in the Seimas, was outraged that the quarantine was not valid for the MAMA awards.

“You say, only filming with a few hundred people, including a ‘limited number of guests.’ No, no, it is definitely not an event. Party during the plague. I imagine how responsible event organizers have to feel cheated. Not to mention other quarantined people who didn’t see their parents or grandparents after six months. The responsible authorities must take immediate action, “he wrote on Facebook.

Seimas member Jurgita Sėjonienė wrote on Facebook that the tests are only a secondary message: “With all due respect to the creators, the public will understand this as” if it is possible for them, why not for us? “Negative tests are a secondary message. If it will be noticed.” That’s celebrating life. “

Seimas Justas member Džiugelis also stated that “a party during a plague is unforgivable.”
