Under tight security, military orchestras and police motorcyclists escorted the presidential procession up Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
Biden, who became the 46th president of the United States, was driving a presidential limousine number 46, surrounded by six masked Secret Service agents.
Finally, 78-year-old Biden and his wife Jill came out and up the stairs of the White House.
“It looks like I’m going home,” Biden told NBC News on the way after spending a lot of time in the White House as vice president of the Barack Obama administration.

About four hours earlier, Biden had been sworn in at the United States Capitol and in his inaugural address advocated for the unity of the country and its people, and once again vowed to be President of all Americans.
Immediately after the swearing in, Biden and Harris first visited Arlington National Cemetery to honor fallen American soldiers. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama also attended the ceremony.
