A 1.7 km long trail from the southern beach of Nida to the central one is now maintained in Neringa. According to the municipality, the trail has already been raised by tree roots, the pavement has worn out and has become too narrow. The repair works will cost around 175 thousand. Most of the funding came from European Union funds. The objective is to order the way by the end of this year.
According to the mayor of Neringa, Darius Jasaitis, bike lanes approximately 2 km long will appear near Taikos Street.
This summer, the Smiltyne to Pervalka cycle path received much criticism. Summermakers, ready to meet the Curonian Spit, are angry that the trail is in very poor condition, and in some places it’s even dangerous to drive.
“This trail is in the hands of the Highway Administration. Today I just spoke to the Minister of Transportation and he knew very well that the preparation of documentation for repair work is beginning. It may not be realistic to see the works this year , but we would like very much “, the mayor expected. The path that connects Smiltyne and Pervalka is about 30 km long.
