According to the publication, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz assured US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in early August, first verbally and then in writing, that Germany was ready to finance the construction of two terminals for the imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
These LNG terminals, which will cost up to a billion in total. It is planned to build in the ports of Brunswick and Wilhelmshafen.
According to Die Zeit, such a written offer from Berlin reached Washington on August 7.
“In response, the United States will allow the uninterrupted completion and commissioning of Nord Stream 2,” Die Zeit said according to the German Treasury.
Meanwhile, his representative declined to comment on this information.
“We are not commenting on individual media reports,” a spokesman for the German Finance Ministry Christoph Kuhn told reporters on Wednesday.
