Russia urges European Union countries not to interfere in Belarusian affairs by funding opposition structures, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
We note with regret that the European Union has not refrained from trying to influence the situation in this sister country. Instead of restraint and tact, which are sorely needed to create the conditions for a comprehensive national dialogue, priority has been given to introducing illegal unilateral sanctions, ”the ministry said in a statement.
“There are increasing requests for additional funding for Belarusian opposition structures, including those supported by Belarus in neighboring European countries,” he said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also declared that such calls are contrary to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states enshrined in the Helsinki accords.
“We hope that the European Union will align its foreign policy with this and other fundamental common principles of European security,” the ministry said.

“Our neighbors, the Lithuanians, in my opinion, have already exceeded all the limits of decency with their claim. And we have reason to believe that they are working with Ms. Sviatlana Cichanouskaya on undemocratic methods and methods that do not show much respect for the sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus, “Lavrov said Tuesday, addressing first-year students and professors from the Institute of MGIMO International Relations The Russian minister did not provide any specific evidence.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius reacted to S. Lavrov’s statement on Tuesday.
“Lithuania has not and will not interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus, because it does not have that right or its intentions. However, Lithuania has helped and will help the people of Belarus, whose security will be in danger. According to Lithuania and the countries of the EU, new transparent elections can lift Belarus out of the political stalemate, which would be recognized by both the Belarusian people and the international community, ”says L. Linkevičius in a comment sent to Elta.
