According to ministry spokesman Anatoly Hlaz, attempts to influence Belarus with sanctions have the opposite effect.
“We have carefully read the statements of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Be that as it may, they are our neighbors, so their views are important to us. Although, judging by recent hasty steps, unfortunately less and less. And it is sad to say that ”, A. Hlaz is quoted in the report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
He stressed that by imposing sanctions, the Baltic states were “climbing the same rake.”
“It is incomprehensible what this step by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is called to support the sovereignty and independence of Belarus, about which so much has been talked about and about which so much has been talked about. Yet it is such a persistent desire to climbing on the same rake and not walking in a closed circle which causes sincere disappointment, ”said A. Hlazas.
“The history of our independent state eloquently confirms that any attempt to impose sanctions on Belarus only brings its initiators the opposite effect. We are absolutely convinced that today’s decision by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will be no exception,” he added.
Klaz also reiterated that Belarus will be forced to take retaliatory measures.
On Monday, Lithuania imposed national sanctions on 30 high-ranking Belarusian officials. Among them are the authoritarian Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and his associates. Latvia and Estonia also announced national sanctions on Monday.
It was decided to impose new sanctions on the Lukashenko regime due to rigged presidential elections and violence used against peaceful protesters. After the first manifestations of electoral fraud, some 7,000 people were arrested. of the people who left the detention center said they had been brutally beaten, several people died.
The restrictive measures against Belarus were imposed for the first time in 2004 due to the disappearance of four people. In 2011, the European Union issued additional sanctions against those who carried out the crackdown.
