Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, for his part, expressed his support for his country’s troops guarding the border with Belarus.
Morawieckis said on Facebook that “all the powers of the state” are with the border guard and the army.
“I support and will always strongly support our soldiers and border guards,” the prime minister wrote. “I want to thank our services for their professional and responsible approach.”
EU members Poland, Latvia and Lithuania have recently come under pressure to migrate across their borders to Belarus. They accuse the Belarusian government of offering free tourist visas and deliberately misinforming people so they can find refuge in the EU by illegally crossing borders with neighboring countries.
Claiming that Minsk is taking revenge on Western sanctions in this way, the Polish and Lithuanian governments have sent thousands of troops and straight-cut wire barriers to the Belarusian border.
