The decree on the formation of the group was signed by I. Šimonytė on Wednesday. The Advisory Council shall submit proposals to the Prime Minister on the implementation of the reforms and structural changes included in the plan.

R. Barys, editor-in-chief of the newspaper and the “Verslo žinios” portal, said that from the initial conversations he did not see any risk that his membership on the council would conflict with his duties as editor, but added that the council’s vision it would become clearer after the first formal meeting on January 29.

“When we have the first meeting, we will find out until the end if we have understood all parties in the same way,” Barys told BNS.

“Councils fit equally anywhere, journalists advise many people and cannot interfere with their interests in any way. If there is an intersection with professional problems somewhere, there is always an opportunity to end that cooperation”, R. Barys said.

“Professional interests prevail over others. But from the conversations I had, I still do not see any conflict of interest,” said the director of Verslo žinios.

According to the representative of I. Šimonytė, the Prime Minister invited professionals from various fields to the council, who would advise the government on how to implement the Economic Recovery and Strengthening Resilience Plan. She emphasizes that all members of the group are treated the same: in case of conflict of interest, they must withdraw.

“37 percent. This fund provides a green rate of 20 percent.” Digitization, so we do not see where conflicts of interest can arise, but if they do occur, the procedure is the same for everyone: to declare possible conflicts and, in case of incompatibility, to get rid of them, “says Rasa Jakilaitienė, representative of the Prime Minister.

According to R. Barys, I. Šimonyte’s position on “Verslo žinios” is relevant as a publication that analyzes the country’s economic problems “from a great distance”.

Mr. Barys also emphasized that the editorial staff of Verslo žinios could continue to be critical of the Advisory Council’s proposals, despite their participation in the Council’s activities.

“You can boldly ask this question to any journalist from” Verslo žinios “, you will get an answer: they are all free, because they are not primarily responsible to the editor, but they are Lithuanian citizens and journalists with certain values. In this case, I do not see absolutely no problem, “he said.

The Council will also include the signatory of the Act of Independence, A. Abišala, the head of government in 1992, Mantas Katinas, the director of the foreign investment development agency Invest in Lithuania, the rector of the ISM University, the former director of Lietuvos Energija (now Ignitis Group), Dalius Misiūnas, the former Paulius Lukauskas, Deputy Chancellor of the Government, Arminta Saladžienė, head of the Nasdaq office in Lithuania, and Viktorija Trimbel, director of Quantum Capital.
