At the public’s initiative, Raskevičius also acquired a detective tone: signatures or documents?

The Seimas Board intends to assess this with a public statement, but on Wednesday it was decided to postpone the issue for next week.
Before making a decision, the head of parliament invited the members of the Seimas board to “familiarize themselves with the appearance of these documents.”

Some members of the Seimas Board were reluctant to talk about citizens’ signatures, but described them as “documents, lists” and that this initiative did not meet the requirements of the Law on Petitions.
Vytautas Mitalas, vice president of the Seimas, representative of the Freedom Faction, affirmed that “there are no signatures there.”

“Basically it is not possible to check how many citizens have expressed their will, a certain position. That document does not comply with the Petitions Law. If we leave it that way, in my opinion, we run the risk of getting involved in very dangerous incidents, because anyone who brings the documents to the Seimas will be able to tell that there are signatures there, although we don’t see any. signatures, ”V. said at the Seimas board meeting.

Commenting on a certain public debate taking place in public space, he said that he would see that “forces hostile to Lithuania may also try to use it to manipulate the will of the Seimas.”

“Perhaps we could put on record by decision of the Board that the Seimas Board states that these documents do not contain personal signatures or other necessary requirements that allow these documents to be considered as a petition under the Law on Petitions. If we want to refer something to the Committee on Petitions, it is not a petition. The second thing: the content of the document exceeds the norms of democratic state governance and the Seimas Board sees no reason to initiate changes in the management of the Human Rights Committee, in this case the president of the Human Rights Committee ”, said V. Mitalas .

In his opinion, the decision of the Seimas Board would be a certain message to the public and would protect the democratic foundations of the Seimas and the state.

The conservative president of the Seimas Jurgis Razma described the initiative of the public as “lists with statements of the opinion of certain people.”

To avoid problems in the future, he suggested more publicity about the possibility of an electronic petition for such initiatives.

The conservative president of Seimas Paulius Saudargas believes that the issue of signatures has reached a very hot stage, so he suggested not to make hasty decisions.
