“Although the summer in Kaunas is generous not only with the tropical heat, but also with the maintenance works on the streets, those works always lead to good news. One of the big news in Žaliakalnis: the P. Kalpoko street viaduct still smells like paint, but the main works are already finished and traffic is allowed, ”the municipality announced Tuesday afternoon.

After reconstruction, the road part of the viaduct was slightly widened: two 3-meter-wide traffic lanes were installed. On the sides of the viaduct, sidewalks almost 2 meters wide stretched for pedestrians.

The viaduct repair works, which were to be completed on December 31, 2020, took more than half a year. The works on P. Kalpoko Street, which remains under the viaduct, also took longer than expected.

This section of traffic was planned to be open to drivers in September last year, but Kaunas residents had to arm themselves a bit more. However, here too the work is almost finished and traffic is expected to resume here in late summer.

“The renovation of the street under the viaduct is progressing according to plan: underground communications are being changed, new sidewalks are being formed. We plan to start traffic here in late summer, ”the Kaunas municipality reported last week.
