As the number of heavily COVID-19 patients declines in the Kaunas region, the number of beds is reduced for the second time

As the Kaunas clinics that coordinate the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the region announced on Friday, this is the second stage in reducing the number of beds in the region. Since Monday, a total of 42 beds have been removed for COVID-19 patients.

The number of COVID-19 beds with oxygen supply in the therapeutic profile is reduced by 30 beds at LSMU Kaunas Hospital.

In Kėdainiai hospital, a profile bed for resuscitation and intensive care with the possibility of artificial pulmonary ventilation (VPD) is declining. Two beds of this profile remain in the hospital.

At Kaišiadorys Hospital, after the recovery of all patients, the COVID-19 disease ward is closed: ten beds from the therapeutic profile and one bed from the resuscitation and intensive care profile are destroyed.

“We see that 32-34 patients come to medical institutions for two weeks a day, and the average number of outgoing patients is greater than the number of incoming, therefore the number of occupied COVID-19 beds is decreasing,” says COVID -19. According to him, a further reduction in the number of beds will depend on the epidemiological situation and the flow of incoming and outgoing patients.

The released beds will continue to be used to treat other patients.

Starting next week, a total of 455 COVID-19 beds with oxygen supply and 61 resuscitation and intensive care beds with DPV option will remain in the Kaunas region.

The number of beds was reduced for the first time last week.

After the second stage of reducing beds, a total of 74 COVID-19 beds will be reduced in hospitals in the Kaunas region.

According to data from the Statistics Department on Friday, 1.7 thousand patients are currently being treated in Lithuanian hospitals. COVID-19 patients, 172 of whom were in resuscitation.
