Witnesses say tear gas was used against the protesters and also report that at least three incendiary grenades have been used.

Among the approximately 10 detainees are two journalists with identification marks “Press”. According to preliminary data, one of these journalists is an employee of the Russian media.

Minsk militia spokeswoman Natalia Hanusevich confirmed to Interfax information about people detained in the capital during a protest on Sunday. “There are detainees,” he said.

Taraikovsky, 34, was the first to die on August 10 during protests in Belarus following the disputed elections on August 9. For his death, the opposition blames the workers for the power structures.

Tens of thousands of Belarusians have been protesting for more than three months against the decision to declare 26-year-old authoritarian leader Aliaksandr Lukashenko the winner of the controversial August presidential elections.
