Arrest for smuggling in Dzūkija: five VW crew members and one huddled

On Wednesday afternoon, officers from the SBGS Varėna Border Team’s Criminal Intelligence and Special Purpose Divisions stopped Volkswagen Passat and Audi A6 cars driving one after another in the town of Noškūnai, Varėna District.

It turned out that five men participated in the “folksvagen”. Border guards found another person huddled in the trunk of the car.

There were two men in the Audi A6 behind. The cabin of this vehicle was crammed with cigarette boxes wrapped in black polyethylene film.

In total, border guards found 10,000. NZ Gold brand smoking packs. They are marked with Belarusian stamps.

The value of such cargo, including all mandatory taxes in Lithuania, is almost 35 thousand. euros.

The 8 men trapped were established as residents of the city and district of Vilnius. Their age is from 22 to 46 years old.

After questioning, all eight were taken into custody. The SBGS Varėna border team agents clarified the circumstances of this event, who initiated the pre-trial investigation into the illegal disposal of excise goods.

Captured smugglers face up to eight years in prison or prison.
