In this way, the leadership of the Catholic Church in Lithuania responds to the Mass offered in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Vilnius for the success of the Lithuanian Polish electoral campaign: the Union of Christian Families (LLRA-KŠS) and the speeches of the priest .

“Unfortunately, the Church seems to many politicians like the right place to carry out an electoral campaign, but the sanctity of the churches is incompatible with political turmoil. The priests discuss with all the churches what information is received about possible political unrest, the situation is assessed, they are reminded that there is no unrest in the churches and how to make sure there is no unrest, ”said Živilė Peluritienė, Coordinator of Communication of the Curia of the Archdiocese of Vilnius.

Unfortunately, it seems to many politicians that the Church is the right place to conduct an election campaign, but the sanctity of churches is incompatible with political turmoil.

LLRA-KŠS announced on Wednesday that a mass was offered on Monday at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Vilnius “because of the strength and energy necessary in organizing the elections and because of the good results of the elections in the Polish region” .

The church’s pastor, Tadeusz Jasinski, quoted in the report, states: “The elections are certainly an important event, because people have the opportunity to influence not only their own destiny, but also the destiny of the entire homeland. and of all people, so it is important who is elected to parliament. you ask for a blessing before the election, thank God for this work, for the strength he has given you in preparation for this election.

The Archdiocese of Vilnius has previously stated that priests are called to proclaim the Gospel and serve the communities entrusted to them, and should not actively participate in politics and political parties unless “by decision of the competent ecclesiastical authority necessary as specified in the Code of Canon Law.

The archdiocese emphasizes that the sacred character of the Church is incompatible with politicization, and that the decision to vote for a candidate “is made by each citizen individually, according to their own beliefs, experiences and values.”

“If a clergyman calls to vote for a particular candidate or party during a sermon, he should be gently reminded that it is inappropriate, if it does not help, to inform the pastor of the church, and if the agitation does not cease, the bishop,” advises the archdiocese.

The SNB could not be reached with the pastor of the Vilnius Church of the Holy Spirit, T. Jasinskis, on Wednesday.
