Upon arrival, both the patient and the fetus were stable, but after examinations it turned out that the fetus is in an irregular position, the cervix is not ready for delivery, according to a press release from the Kaunas clinics.

“As the amniotic fluid leaked prematurely and the tests showed that an immediate response was needed, it was decided to perform an urgent cesarean section,” said Eglė Savukynė, an obstetrician-gynecologist at the Kaunas Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic.

The operation went smoothly and the patient did not bleed more than usual during the operation. Aquila gave birth to a healthy and premature newborn. However, three hours after the operation, the woman’s blood pressure dropped and she lost consciousness. “I remember when I got weak. After ultrasound examination, it was found that she had internal bleeding and the blood was not clotting at all, ”said the patient.

According to the obstetrician-gynecologist, the patient had to undergo emergency surgery due to bleeding in the abdominal cavity and uterine contraction after delivery.

“Despite stopping the bleeding with medication, the uterus did not contract during the entire operation. Unfortunately, to save a woman’s life, uterine removal surgery has become unavoidable. The patient was informed about this treatment before the operation. The woman lost more than three liters of blood, was transfused with five mass units of erythrocytes, ”said E. Savukynė about the emergency situation in the operating room. A complex operation was performed under the direction of an experienced obstetrician and gynecologist, Richard August.

Patient Akvilė spent 11 days in the Kaunas clinics, four of which she was in the intensive care unit.

“I haven’t seen my son for a long time, he no longer had milk, but fortunately the donor’s mother’s milk bank is in the hospital, so the baby was taken care of,” said the young mother. – My life was in danger and I know that I was still alive through my hair. It is difficult to express the joy of having fallen into the hands of the specialists at the Kaunas clinic. I am very grateful to all the staff and especially to the doctors who operated on me, Egle Savukyne and Ričardas Augustus ”.

Although complications after a cesarean section are rare, they do occur.

“One of the most common and threatening complications is bleeding, which can lead to maternal death. Therefore, it is important to notice postpartum bleeding in a timely manner and provide immediate assistance, says obstetrician and gynecologist Ričardas Augustis.” At a juncture Criticism, teamwork, and collaboration between obstetricians, gynecologists, neonatologists, and nurses and their assistants are extremely important. “

In providing support for postpartum hemorrhage, timely blood transfusions are important and the supply of vital blood components is ensured by a hospital blood bank.

“A special thanks to the blood donors who donate their blood at the Blood Center of Kaunas Clinics. Thanks to them, we can save many lives. L’Aquila has survived and is able to rock its newborn in its hands thanks to you, the blood donors. For this reason, we invite all those who can and want to contribute to this noble mission of donating blood ”, asks the obstetrician-gynecologist.
