“We currently have 116 serious, very serious and extremely serious patients. There are 19 patients in the resuscitation unit, 15 are ventilated, 4 are hemodialysis due to kidney failure. We have officially declared 120 beds, but during the festive period we plan to expand, if necessary, another 45-40 beds, – says Vinsas Janušonis, director of KUL. – The problem with the staff is quite big. Currently, 150 employees are on sick leave, 33 of them due to COVID. “

Doctors continue to accept people who need extra help. Emergency relief in KUL has not been interrupted and medical work is expected to be in full swing during the holidays, although it is hoped that people will not be as active and at least Christmas and Christmas will be calmer.

In all hospitals in the region, the number of patients is estimated in hundreds. Although some people are cured, doctors do not hide the fact that they are eagerly awaiting vaccination to help fight the disease. The first vaccinations are expected in Klaipeda on the second day of Christmas.

Police officers preparing for the festive period do not hide the fact that there will be many more officers working in the city both during the Christmas period and on New Year’s Eve.

Rasa Bekežienė, head of the Public Order Division of the Klaipėda County Police Chief’s Station, says that last weekend clearly showed the work ahead in controlling incoming flows. According to R. Bekežienė, the two more long weekends waiting for the officers will also be very active.

“The police are enough, we have contributed additional forces to the Christmas tree, where it attracts more people. We have also heard suggestions that the New Year should not illuminate the Christmas tree and thus further reduce the flow of people who will go to public spaces. But this is still being considered, ”says R. Bekežienė.

The fate of the Christmas tree and North Star sculpture will be decided in the coming days. If such an offer is accepted, it is hoped that the theater that drowns in darkness will not attract visitors.
