The United States became the first country to approve a Modern two-dose vaccine. The drug is the second coronavirus vaccine to be approved in the United States, having previously been licensed to distribute a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
“Now that the two vaccines can be used to prevent COVID-19, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has taken another crucial step in the fight against this global pandemic,” said FDA Chief Stephen Hahn.
President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly recognized the merits of the rapid development of vaccines, wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations, the modern vaccine is now available!”
Joe Biden, who won the presidential election in November and will take over the White House in January, also hailed the message as “another victory” in the fight against the virus.
However, he warned of “the enormous challenges that lie ahead, including expanding production and distribution, as well as the enormous challenge of vaccinating hundreds of millions of Americans.”
