This natural meteorological phenomenon occurred from July 12 to 18. recorded in most of Lithuania (except in western Lithuanian districts, Biržai and Prienai) and lasted 3 to 7 days. We remind you that heat is recorded when the maximum daily air temperature reaches or exceeds 30 ° C, for three or more consecutive days.
In most of Lithuania, the hot period prevailed from July 7, but on July 11. it was interrupted by a slightly cooler air mass when the air temperature did not rise to 30 ° C, so the entire period was divided into two natural heaters.
However, in part of eastern Lithuania and the Kelmė area on July 11. the air temperature reached and exceeded 30 ° C, so the heat started here from July 7 to 8. it lasted uninterruptedly until July 18. During this period, between 6 and 11 hot days were recorded in most of Lithuania.
In Utena, the heat lasted 11 days, in Zarasai and Švenčionys, after 10 days, in Kelmė, for 9 days. In these areas, this is the longest lasting heat since the beginning of meteorological observations in them! There were only a few cases in Lithuania where the heat lasted for 11 days. Since 1961, the period heat in Lithuania has not lasted more than 11 days in any weather station.
