“A case of coronavirus infection was detected in a patient treated in the same room where the first case was registered,” the Jūratė Kuzmickaitė hospital representative told BNS.

“We found that the test for this patient, performed on May 4, was negative, but repeated testing on all high-risk follow-up patients returned a positive response,” he added.

According to J. Kuzmickaitė, a total of seven cases of infection were identified at Kaunas Republican Hospital: six patients from the Department of Internal Medicine and one staff member.

“Currently, there are 32 staff members in self-isolation, they have been replaced by colleagues who did not have risky contacts,” said a hospital representative.

According to her, all the patients who have been diagnosed with the infection have been transferred to the Kaunas Clinical Hospital for specialized treatment, and the employee who has been confirmed with coronavirus does not feel any symptoms: he isolates himself at home.

In Lithuania, on Friday the coronavirus was confirmed in 1,436 people, 765 people recovered from this infectious disease and 49 people died.
