Chimki lacked the brightest star Alexei Swede in the Serbian capital, and the Russian club’s carriage was pulled by the only two remaining legionnaires, Errick McCollum and Jordan Mickey, who together scored as many as 56 points.
The Moscow area team won 15: 8 in the first quarter and had a 10-point lead in the third quarter (51:41) but did not pass.
Crvena zvezda finished the third quarter with a jet and lunged forward for the first time (62:60) 14 seconds after Dejan Davidovac’s 3-pointer, finally breaking the course of the match in the fourth quarter.
Almost halfway through the deciding quarter, Chimki was still in the match and even leading 73:72, but then the Serbs scored as many as 14 unanswered points and solved the end-of-match issue in their favor.
Even the amazing Americans didn’t save Team Chimki. E. McCollum scored 29 and J. Mickey 27 points. For the former it was the most productive match of the season, and for the latter it was the second most productive, but the Euroleague outsiders, who lacked Russian input, lost for the 25th time this season.
With this number of defeats, Chimki reiterated the Euroleague one-season failure record set in 2018-2019. Istanbul’s Darussalafaka, who also lost 25 times, recorded the season.
