Aistis Šimaitis, a government expert, presented the current epidemiological situation to the Cabinet of Ministers at the meeting.
“We had a week of vacation, when the number of cases seemed to decrease, but the scope of the tests also decreased. Although these epidemic curves fall in the municipality in terms of cases, it is necessary to analyze other indicators. (…) Looking at this week, when we had lower numbers and normal test volumes on Monday and Thursday, that daily number of cases was very similar to what we had last week, ”he said.
According to him, the proportion of positive studies remained stable, perhaps even growing slightly.
“Because we test less, what can we look at? We can look at the ratio of positive research. We see that it has remained stable, perhaps even slightly increased. On holidays it is higher because there are fewer preventive tests, but on other days we see that its proportion has not changed at all compared to the previous one ”, said A. Šimaitis.
He explained that the situation is not improving. And the data from the moving points shows that the number of positive cases has increased.
“We don’t have a drastic increase, but it really is too early to start talking,” said a government expert.
Situation in hospitals, according to A. Šimaiitis, the total number of patients in the last 10 days was approximately 2450.
“Looking more closely at those numbers, that number of treatment beds has increased a bit. The number of people lying in resuscitation increased significantly, the number of mild patients in hospitals decreased. Although we can see that the number has not changed, the composition of what is being treated in the hospital has changed for the worse, ”he said.
Deaths increased 15 percent last week.
“There was a 15 percent increase last week and that growth trend continues. It will last a couple more weeks, because they are several weeks behind,” A. Šimaitis said of the death statistics.
The good news is the decline in mobility data. This was visible on both holidays and weekdays.
“It is very good news that mobility is decreasing. (…) We have reached a level similar to that of the spring ”, the expert presented.
He said that the growth of the pandemic in the country continues to increase, but there are also positive trends.
“The pandemic in our country continues to increase. In recent days, there are positive trends at the beginning,” explained A. Šimaitis the data.
He said it would be clear over the next 7-10 days if the improvement was long-term.
“During those days, we will see if that trend is sustainable or just a festive effect,” A. Šimaitis told the government meeting.
