All of these buildings on 17th Street in Austin were designed by Logan Architecture and printed by ICON. Yes, you got it right, there is already a street where all the houses were printed with 3D printers.

Houses made with 3D printers are generally said to be cheaper because they get up faster and don’t need as many builders. Also, they are easier to build where traditional building materials are not readily available. But these new homes in Texas also have more advantages.

ICON says that these homes are safer – they are more resistant to fires, floods, and hurricanes. 3D printers allow you to create integrated designs that can be characterized by exceptional rigidity and strength or beauty. Standard houses can be built with standard bricks; 3D printers are not that limited.

But, of course, one cannot guess from the fact that these houses, which vary in area from 83 to 185 square meters, sprouted so quickly. The largest four-bedroom house grew in just one week. And they have a well thought out internal structure, large windows. It will take more time for decoration and furniture.

3D buildings still have flaws. They are not as cheap as they should be because the technology is still young and expensive. But in the future, houses built with 3D printers should be cheaper because they don’t need as many human hands.

The value of the domestic 3D printing industry is expected to reach $ 51 billion by 2026. This technology will completely change the entire construction sector. Builders of small and medium-sized buildings will soon complain that robots have taken their jobs away.
