This is Vilnius’ response to the restrictions created by the quarantine. Open Beach has all the features of a beach: hammocks, umbrellas, a beach volleyball court, a locker room, and even beach-specific workplaces with free internet, according to a municipal report.

“All restrictions create new opportunities. The closing of the holiday walls created an opportunity not only to spend a holiday in Vilnius, but also to rediscover them. And the fact that this beach appears on Lukiškės Square also reminds us of the great joy of being able to celebrate freedom. An artificial beach full of life is Vilnius’ declaration on the victory of freedom, “said Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius.

1660 square meters m beach area uses 300 cubic meters of sand. Until the end of July, there will be a large screen next to the beach, which will be broadcast by the project partner Telia; Movies, series, concerts and exclusive Telia TV views of the Baltic Sea will be shown every night. Sundays will be for children and families with special cartoons and beach activities.

Already today (June 23), the Telia Summer Cinema will screen one of this year’s most popular films: the film Gentlemen, by British director Guy Ritchie, on June 24. Families are invited to watch the second part of Teddy Bear Pedington. And in the near future, Open Beach visitors will be able to see Oscar-winning films like Green Paper, Pulled Knives or 1917, as well as non-commercial films like the Italian nominee for the Golden Palm Branch at the Cannes International Film Festival. director Paolo Sorentin’s youth film, American director Gus Van Santo’s comedy Don’t worry, he won’t go far, or Sakartel director Levan Akin’s film And Then We Dance.

The complete broadcast program will be available here.

Open Beach was designed and installed by the Grinda company from Vilnius City Municipality.

By fighting quarantine, the Vilnius city municipality has already given freedom to outdoor cafes and turned the city into a great restaurant. The project “Holidays in Vilnius”, which turns the capital into a different foreign country every other weekend, already invites you to rest in Vilnius. In early July, the capital will also become a large open-air art gallery – the Art Without a Roof project presents artists with 100 outdoor advertising stands. The works of a hundred artists will be exhibited.
