Rima Baškienė, first vice president of Seimas, told BNS that the efforts will be considered in parliament as soon as possible.

“There is a desire not to prolong it, because quarantine has been around for a long time, and now they have started firing those older adults en masse and are no longer losing their jobs.” And to protect them, we want to adopt amendments quickly. If there were a presentation on Thursday, we would discuss it in the Committee on Social Affairs and Labor on Friday. Then on Tuesday – at the Seimas, and on Thursday we accept. “A few more days before the president signs and takes effect,” he said.

On Wednesday night, the amendments had not yet been registered with Seimas, and without the conclusions of the Seimas Legal Department, the amendments will not be presented in plenary sessions.

However, R. Baškienės claims that Seimas’ lawyers will be able to prepare conclusions on the amendments before presenting the amendments to parliamentarians in the afternoon.

“It just came to our attention then. They already agreed with the Legal Department (…) They had been blindfolded in advance. Now I will only check if everything is as it was in the original version”, – stated R. Baškienė.

If Seimas adopts the amendments, the subsidy, which would be valid even after the end of quarantine, but if the emergency situation continues, would reach 100%. wages, but not more than the minimum wage (MMA, 607 euros) or 70 percent. salary, but not more than 1.5 MMA (€ 910.5).

After the end of quarantine and the emergency, or an employee’s return from downtime, the employer could continue to apply for a six-month subsidy: 100% in the first and second months, 50% in the third and fourth months, 30% in the fifth and sixth month, up to a maximum of 607 euros (before taxes).

The amendments also stipulate that residents will receive a temporary job search benefit as soon as they become unemployed, and not when the term for receiving employer severance pay expires. The same would apply when a person applies for the regular unemployment benefit.

There are now cases where employers commit to pay severance pay but it is not paid immediately.
