Such decisions are made after a coronavirus has been identified in various members of the Seimas, including the President of the Seimas.

Tests every week

“We have decided that a very specific and clear procedure will be provided on how the members of the Seimas could be evaluated each week. Already today, some members of the Seimas will have the opportunity to test.

On Monday, all Seimas members will be able to test near the Seimas building. In order to ensure that infected Seimas members who do not feel symptoms are not in the Seimas Hall, ”Seimas President Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen told reporters at Seimas on Friday.

The Seimas will also take stricter hygiene control measures.

“The construction of certain partitions between the members of the Seimas, recommendations not to meet, move less in the Seimas room and thus further reduce the risk of infection,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Finally, the Seimas Board wants to accelerate the legalization of teleworking.

“It just came to our attention then. We agreed to start all the necessary paperwork for teleworking. On Monday morning, we scheduled an official board meeting, where projects on the transition to teleworking will be presented,” said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

It is true that the president of Seimas recognizes that the transition from Seimas to telecommuting can take time.

“As for voting during the Seimas session, during the Seimas sessions, there are a number of technical and legal aspects. But this work is already underway, on Monday we will take the necessary decisions to accelerate that transition and create all the necessary conditions, ”said V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.

Telework was postponed

The rulers’ proposal to legalize the possibility for the Seimas to work remotely got stuck in the House on Thursday. As soon as the conservative Andrius Vyšniauskas presented this project, the peasant representative Tomas Tomilinas asked for a break until the next meeting. In this way, the project submission procedure was not even completed.

According to the draft amendment to the Statute of the Seimas, after the declaration of an emergency or quarantine situation by order of the President of the Seimas, the possibility for parliamentarians to join the Seimas session from a distance should be guaranteed.

A. Vyšniauskas emphasized that his amendment would allow MPs to discuss remotely, but they would still have to vote in the House. According to him, the Seimas Chancellery is looking for solutions so that in the future the members of the Seimas can also vote remotely.

Now the Statute of the Seimas allows to hold meetings of committees, commissions and the Board of the Seimas remotely.
