Last month, Navaln was similarly transferred from solitary confinement in Moscow to a Federal Prison Service in the Vladimir region. Here he was quarantined for a week.
Navaln’s Twitter account says opposition lawyers have been waiting in jail where he would be held since the beginning of the day.
“Under various pretexts, they were not allowed to meet with Alexei,” opposition officials wrote, accusing the prison officials of “inventing someone’s vacation and illness.”
“The lawyers were only informed at 2:00 pm that Alexei had been taken away. The prison authorities refused to say where,” Navalnas said in his account.
It was decided to take that step to ensure smooth management in the difficult conditions of the pandemic, the Cabinet of Ministers announced on social media.
Navaln was sentenced last month to two and a half years in prison for violating the terms of a probation sentence previously imposed during his recovery in Germany from the poisoning.
A. Navalnas says the accusations are politically motivated.
