Living and working together

Darius and Aistė chose the profession of teacher, according to a press release. Darius is studying elementary education pedagogy and has worked as an elementary school teacher for several years, and Aistė graduated with a degree in biology last year. It is true that the girl’s career path was a little different: she currently works as an educator in a kindergarten. “As far as I can remember, I always got along well with young children, I wanted to help them and teach them how to play or play together. Although I graduated in biology and qualified as a teacher, I do not stop and I hope to receive a response on admission to the teacher recycling program “Tęsk”. I will try to continue learning, deepen my knowledge of preschool education. My job is not only fun, it encourages continuous improvement, but also a commitment to being the best close friend of children who come to kindergarten and get away from mom and dad. I think when you work here you have to be very empathetic, react quickly to various situations, therefore every day in kindergarten is like a new story where you experience everything, “says A. Šumskaitė-Savickienė.

It is interesting that the family of teachers works in the same school of arts and sciences “Taškius”. The man laughs that it was not easy for the two teachers to work and live under the same family roof during the quarantine. “Everywhere there are many books, theatrical puppets, various methodological tools both on the table and on the beds. One leads the lessons in the bedroom and the other in the living room, free minutes to share what the video lessons were like. When we come home from school very often, sometimes even before falling asleep, we find ourselves talking about children, new ideas. Sometimes it doesn’t turn out any other way. However, we try to stop and say that it is enough to talk about work, talk or do something else. Over time, we have realized that it is important to stop a little, to have time for each other, “says D. Savickas.

Parents are skeptical about the young age of teachers.

D. Savickas has been working at the school since his sophomore year of study. Currently, he combines studies of primary education pedagogy at the Vytautas Magnus University Academy of Education in Vilnius with the work of a second-class teacher. One of the biggest challenges at the beginning of this profession is the skepticism of the students’ parents about the age of the teacher. “I can say that in my first year of work, the parents look at the young teacher in an unreliable way, many did not say it directly, but I felt that they were concerned about my age and my little experience working with children. It is very important not to give up, believe in yourself and what you are doing, “says D. Savickas.

This school year, Darius’ wife Aiste was the first to work as an educator in a kindergarten. According to the preschool teacher, one of the most difficult challenges is the children’s adjustment period. So educators must arm themselves with patience, understanding and empathy, because for children it is a new stage of life. “It is difficult for them to say goodbye to their parents and understand that the kindergarten and the teachers and teachers in it will become their second home. Therefore, our job as teachers is to create an environment in which it would be good for a child to grow up, ”says A. Šumskaitė-Savickienė.

Dream school with green areas

Both Darius and Aistė have a unanimous opinion on the painting of a modern master. “An educator must love his work because only then can he share his love for children and enjoy every moment of the learning process. The teacher cannot see the classroom as a factory from which the same product is obtained: each student must be seen as a unique personality, who will go in the right direction, help to grow and improve. Yes, it is difficult to individualize and differentiate the educational process after starting the pedagogical work, but the teacher cannot give up and give up, “say D. and A. Savickai.

Both teachers dream of a school where each student is important, their progress and individual development. Darius points out that the school of the future should have fewer children in groups so that the teacher can spend more individual time with the student. “Of course, there should be more green areas at the school where students can communicate with friends and relax,” says Aistė.

Life is a moment

Today, more and more young people are in no rush to start a family and focus on their careers. Darius and Aistė, who were married a year ago, say: Family has always been important to them. “It is probably important in life to find someone with whom you are good, not feel ashamed, who supports you and understands that without this person you would not be able to imagine the rest of your life. And why wait so many years to be together? After all, life is only a moment, so we try to live it in such a way that we don’t have to regret it later, ”says the family of teachers D. and A. Savickai.
