In the next two weeks, the Seimas should announce the appearance of an opposition leader, Andrius Mazuronis, a “hard worker,” reported on Friday. According to the politician, with the agreement of the peasant and labor factions in the Seimas, the position of opposition leader will be rotated.
“If this is what A. Mazuronis says, knowing that in all cases we were in favor and we contributed initiatives, agreements, then at this point it can be said that yes, it is real. The peasants intend to delegate S. Skvernel to the position of opposition leader
According to R. Karbauskis, the peasants plan to nominate S. Skvernelis for the position of leader of the opposition.
“You can say that Saulius Skvernelis is our candidate for leader of the opposition,” he told Elta.
The chairman of the LVŽS party emphasizes that S. Skvernelis is to be thanked for the fact that the peasants’ negotiations with the Labor Party faction are beginning to pay off.

The peasant leader said that the talks about the possible transformation of the opposition leader Aušrinė Norkienė were only considerations derived from the Statute of the Seimas. However, R. Karbauskis assured that the main objective of the peasants was always to form a coalition of opposition factions.
“The deliberations are born when the members of the Seimas are counted and it is calculated that we have two terms left and that if someone joins our faction, the eldest can automatically be the leader of the opposition if the opposition is formed as a faction”, R Karbauskis said.
“But I have said many times that our goal was a coalition. We had no goal for the eldest of our group to still have a job related to the position of leader of the opposition and be on the board, because Aušrinė Norkienė already has enough work and we simply did not have that goal. And there would be no other option if a faction had to assume such responsibilities ”, he also emphasized.
Pragmatic goals can be agreed upon by any political group.
R. Karbauskis also pointed out that the agreement is currently being planned between the “worker” and peasant factions of the Seimas, and not between the parties themselves. Meanwhile, an agreement between these parties, he said, would be almost impossible and perceptible.
“This is an agreement between the two groups and the formation of a joint opposition coalition that could delegate to an opposition leader. In this place, a deal is practically possible just for this. I don’t know how much more he will agree on other things, “he admitted.
The peasant leader stressed that the example of cooperation between conservative and social democratic groups in the Seimas during the last legislature shows that an agreement to achieve pragmatic goals is possible between any group.
“Conservatives have been able to work with the Social Democrats over the last term as factions when their programs are really very different.” This example shows that any faction, regardless of their views and values, can work together in opposition to unite on something. very pragmatic, even only on the issue of the leader of the opposition, “he said.
R. Karbauskis also emphasized that an agreement will be sought with the Social Democratic faction in the Seimas. However, according to him, first of all, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) must elect its party chairman. The LVŽS leader hoped that the new party president would return to the LSDP “in the direction of traditional social democracy.”
“I believe and would very much like the Social Democrats to return to the line of the Social Democrats after the election of the new party president, and not the Liberals, as happened with Paluck. (…) In this case, this election of the party president can return the party to the classic leadership of social democracy. Meanwhile, Algirdas Sysas, the senior of the LSDP faction in the Seimas, stated that he had not heard anything about the unification of the LVŽS and DP factions in the Seimas. He stressed that the Social Democrats would decide on the possibility of joining with other opposition factions in the Seimas after the election of the new chairman of the LSDP party.
