According to Mantė Ramanauskienė, head of the Panevėžys Wildlife Protection Inspectorate, both hunters and individuals provided environmentalists with information about a possible illegal hunter.

“To not only collect information, but also to be able to capture a person with evidence, it took several months of work. At the same time, it is very fun that we can share this success with everyone who has helped us ”, emphasized the environmentalist.

When the agents were located in a known area, around 10 pm a van was sighted, from which a person well known to the officers fired a shotgun.

When the officers fled, the person disobeyed instructions, put the rifle in the cabin of the car, and drove off. Neither stopped nor pursued with blue lights on, the person stopped, trying to maneuver quickly and dangerously while maneuvering on wet country roads. Police assistance was requested immediately after contacting the General Assistance Center.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the Biržai Police Station and Panevėžys environmental officers, the person was soon arrested.

It turned out that he left his truck in the field, left the rifle to a person without the right to carry (keep) firearms and, like nowhere else, he wanted to return home with the help of another person.

After a thorough investigation, a fire rifle was found. Administrative misconduct protocols were developed for a person for being in a hunting area unit with a rifle taken out of the box without having the right to hunt in this hunting area unit, as well as for disobeying the legal requirements of environmental officials .

In addition to the fine, a person is threatened with deprivation of the right to hunt for 1 to 5 years.

The material on the transfer of a weapon to a person who does not have the right to possess (carry) weapons will be delivered to the Police Station for examination according to its competence.

“We are happy to have managed to arrest a hunter who has seriously violated the requirements of the hunting rules on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania. It is also important that the person has not been able to hunt wild animals illegally. We will not tolerate such serious violations, we try to clarify them as much as possible ”, says M. Ramanauskienė.

Environmentalists also point out that all people who have committed or may have committed an infraction must comply with the legitimate requirements of environmental officials. Otherwise, there is a risk of administrative liability, according to the AAD press release.
