The fight between “Šiauliai” and “Neptūnas” from the Klaipėda King Mindaugas Cup (Citadele KMT) quarterfinals can be described as a rather moody fight.

After playing the second part of the match responsibly on the guests of “Neptūnas” 91:76 (16:21, 27:22, 28:14, 20:19) defeated the people of Šiauliai.

The second leg will be waiting for the teams on January 17 in Klaipeda.

“Neptūnas” had taken a step forward in the first half, but after the 10: 2 section “Šiauliai” tied the score and gradually began to gain the lead – 21:16. Long pitches allowed him to stay ahead for a while, but soon the lead started to melt away (43:43), and after the big break, the angry Neptune was reminded again. This is where the breakthrough took place.

A good third quarter allowed them to gain a double-digit lead (69:54) and keep control of the match in their hands, and the guests entered the decisive quarter scoring seven unanswered points, so the difference became overwhelming, 78 : 57. The Šiauliai people no longer created intrigue, although they narrowed the gap a bit before the counter-fight.

Eight players scored points for the “Neptūnas” team: the most productive with 17 was Benas Griciūnas, 15 points – on the account of Evaldas Šaulis (3/5 trit.), 14 – Žygimantas Janavičius, who did not forgive passes to the friends of the team – made 9, was wrong 6 times.

Simas Galdikas (7 rebounds), who played just 15 minutes, and Matas Jogėla (13 rebounds) scored 12 points. For the latter, it is the best game of his career at the Citadele KMT tournament, and he hasn’t grabbed as many rebounds before.

Elvaras Fridriksson scored 16 points for Šiauliai (6 res.), Karparas Bėrzinis (7th rep.), Mindaugas Lukauskis and Andy Van Vlietas with 13 points each.
