It was revealed that smugglers set up hiding places in the alleged load of boards, where officials found 640 boxes of cigarettes worth more than one million euros.

A Belarusian citizen who arrived at the Raigard Road post at midnight Monday through Tuesday around midnight stated that he was carrying 22 tons of boards. However, officials were suspected of both the cargo itself (wood, a traditional cover for smuggling cigarettes) and the route of the cargo: the boards had to be transported in transit through Lithuania to Estonia.

It was decided to check the boards with an X-ray control system, but it was not possible to do so at the Raigardas roadside post at that time, so a truck was safely escorted to the Medininkai border checkpoint.

After radiographing the cargo, the officers’ suspicions only intensified, so it was decided to unload the wood at a detailed inspection site – a hangar.

Then it finally became clear that the loading of boards is just an imitation – hiding places were found inside, where 320 thousand. Belarusian cigarette packages Fest NZ and Minsk. Its total value with taxes payable is more than 1.14 million. euros.

A pre-trial investigation into this smuggling has been launched in the Vilnius section of the Criminal Customs Service, led by the Vilnius Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Illegal cigarettes and a truck were stopped, and the driver of the car was detained for a month by decision of the Vilnius District Court.
