Lewis Hamilton, who has improved the Sochi track record in qualifying F-1, will start the Russian GP race from pole.
Second place went to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, while Mercedes’ second driver Valtteri Bott was third.
Mr. Hamilton has been repeatedly punished for ignoring the limits of the track. The judges had to cancel a British fast lap in both the first and second part of qualifying. If in the first part the athlete managed to easily enter the second part of the races, in the second part the Mercedes driver faced a serious challenge.
Less than 3 minutes before the end of the trip, Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel crashed the car on the track. As a result of this incident, the rating was suspended and Hamilton had not passed any credit rounds at that time.
After further enlargements, L. Hamilton drove to the track on soft tires and barely managed to cross the start / finish line in time, managed to enter the top ten and move on to the next stage of the races.
In the latter part of the races, V. Bottas did not match his teammate L. Hamilton in speed. If the British were able to improve the track record, the Finns were almost a second behind Hamilton after the first fastest lap and only later managed to reduce the lag to 0.6 seconds, but that was all Botott had to do. . As if that were not enough, at the end of qualifying they still overtook him and the second starting position was won by M. Verstappen, who, like the Finns, will start the race on semi-hard tires.
Racing Point driver Sergio Pérez will start the race tomorrow with V. Botto tomorrow. Meanwhile, his Mexican teammate Lance Stroll was only thirteenth.
The starting positions in the third and fourth rows were shared by the Renault and McLaren athletes. Daniel Ricciardo recorded the fifth result, surpassing Carlos Sainz in speed. Esteban Ocon was seventh and Lando Norris eighth.
The top ten was completed by Pierre Gasly, who already won this year, and Red Bull’s second driver Alex Albon.
