On Friday evening, officers from the Pagėgiai border team of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) in the Pasvalys district, on the Riga-Pasvalys-Panevėžys road, stopped the Audi A6 car for inspection. The 52-year-old resident of the Pasvalys district was driving the car from Latvia. He was accompanied by a 34-year-old resident of the same district.

Continuing with the investigation, SBGS officials searched the houses and auxiliary premises of the detainees. A pre-trial investigation has been launched at the Pagėgiai border team in relation to the illegal disposal of excise goods. There is a fine or prison of up to 8 years.

The driver and passenger of the Audi A6 were released after questioning and sent away with written promises not to leave.
