The country’s roads are being prepared for the installation of 100 average speed meters, as well as 70 instantaneous ones, which will be able to scan the speed immediately.

LAKD reports that average speed meters will appear on 56 different road sections, as well as they will be able to measure not only speed, but also determine the validity of technical inspection, civil liability insurance, payment of road user fee.

Representatives of the Highway Administration point out that the location of the speedometers is determined according to the criteria, one of the most important criteria being the average annual traffic intensity and the number of traffic accidents.

It’s true that Evaldas Tamariūnas, LAKD’s public and international relations department communication manager, cautions that the exact locations where the installed meters should be located may change slightly.

The interlocutor also emphasizes that before entering the stretch of road where the meter is located, warning traffic signs of speed measurement devices will be placed.

“Locations may make minor adjustments based on approvals received and power supply connection options.
