About 900 people join the CityBee lawsuit: there is already talk of possible use of leaked data

The plaintiff’s lawyer claims that CityBee users who have lost their data speak out about the use of their data, but those who want to sue are also warned of the consequences.

Daiva Dumčiuvienė, consultant and advisor to the Lithuanian Consumer Organizations Alliance (LVOA), emphasizes that only consumers who have used CityBee services for personal needs can participate in an alliance class action lawsuit.

“A list of suitable plaintiffs is currently being compiled to see who can actually participate in the class action lawsuit. Of course, this does not mean that employees who have used CityBee cannot defend their rights. Only the alliance could not represent them ”, said the lawyer.

According to her, some people are still not connecting due to the uncertainty about the financing of the litigation. According to the lawyer, the alliance is looking for who could cover part of the costs for consumers, but says it has not yet disclosed possible sources of funding.

D. Dumčiuvienė says that people are already talking about cases where the leaked data has already caused undesirable consequences. These cases are examined by attorneys.

“The problems they experience are systemic, people experience them in a similar way. For example, due to a hack on their Netflix accounts, there is a certain group of people who have experienced that hack. That, of course, needs to be checked.” He said.

“Also, if, for example, a person has paid a fee to change a driver’s license, we know that such fee is fixed; it is property damage that he suffers due to the incident and he will ask for compensation for this,” D, He affirmed Dumčiuvienė.

According to her, it is necessary to explain to consumers all the possible threats and economic costs that they would suffer if they lost the case.

“At any time, a person who has contributed to a litigation must understand the consequences for him. Not only will you have to pay your attorney’s representation costs, but you will also have to pay the other party’s costs if you lose the case. You can imagine the burden a person can have, ”said D. Dumčiuvienė.

According to her, the decision of the State Data Inspectorate on whether CityBee negligently handled customer data will be very important to the alliance, but can only be taken after six months.
