About 300 older people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Vilnius so far

“Vaccination of the elderly in the capital began on Monday. About 300 people have been vaccinated at the Karoliniškės polyclinic,” said Paulius Vaitekėnas, specialist in media relations in the capital municipality.

On Wednesday, the vaccination of the elderly will continue in the polyclinics of Antakalnis and Karoliniškės, where it is planned to vaccinate 400 and 150 elderly adults per day, respectively.

“The vaccinations will intensify from next week, as the vaccination will begin in other polyclinics. Now, the vaccinations are being carried out in these two institutions, because there are vaccinations for the teachers, so it was possible to invite the older ones earlier, ”said P. Vaitekėnas.

According to him, the vaccination volumes at the Antakalnis and Karoliniškės polyclinics will remain similar in the coming days.

According to data from the Vilnius Municipality, Vilnius residents aged 80 and over are invited to be vaccinated first, then older people belonging to younger age groups will be vaccinated.

The last to be vaccinated in the elderly will be the population aged 65 to 69 years.

Currently, more than 104 thousand people live in Vilnius. population over 65 years.

According to the municipality, older Vilnius people waiting for the vaccine do not need to worry about registering in polyclinics. The personnel of these institutions will contact the elderly by telephone and will agree on the time of the vaccination. Vaccination is voluntary and both the vaccine and the vaccination service are free.

Vilnius will also vaccinate those older people who have declared their place of residence in other cities, but who currently live in the capital and have enrolled in Vilnius polyclinics. Like older people who have declared their place of residence in Vilnius and enrolled in polyclinics, they will receive calls from polyclinics.

Meanwhile, those who actually reside in the capital (both declaring their place of residence or not) but have not yet registered in the Vilnius polyclinics to get vaccinated in the capital should call the toll-free number 19002 from next Monday and register with your name and phone number.

Vilnius is preparing to offer transportation to vaccination sites for elderly people with mobility problems.

After receiving precise information about the place and time of vaccination, older people should request transportation by calling 85 211 25 55.

Older people who are not walking due to a medical condition will be vaccinated at home upon arrival by a healthcare worker. These older people will also be contacted.

Vaccination of the elderly was initiated by the Kaunas municipality on Tuesday.
