Delfi’s reader, Monika, said she was interested in the BMW 5 Series, built in 2016 and powered by a 2-liter 190hp turbodiesel engine. The car was sold by the Kaunas branch of UAB Krasta Auto, BMW’s authorized representative in Lithuania.
The advertisement placed on the Autoplius.lt portal indicated that the country of first registration of the car is Lithuania and it has not been involved in any traffic accident.
“I became interested in this car and while it was said not to have crashed or been involved in any accidents, I still asked for a report on the history of the car,” he said, adding that he had used CarVertical.
The results obtained were shocking. According to the car history report, the first car registration place was Germany. In addition, two traffic accidents were recorded: one in Germany and one in Lithuania.
“The incident in Lithuania is small, but in Germany the amount of damage reached 60-70 thousand euros. After such damage, the car had to be decommissioned as structurally damaged and dangerous to use”, the interlocutor was surprised .
Offered a refund for the report.
According to her, she also contacted representatives of Krasta Auto. After being told what the car history report shows, they told you the report was wrong and the car history was wrong. It is true that the reply also indicated that the first place of registration of the car was, in fact, Germany.
“The car until 2019. It was in Germany in the middle of the 19th century, and then it came to Lithuania. We bought this car from our client, he bought a new car. Before the buyback we carried out an inspection, I personally inspected the body with a paint thickness gauge, there are no painted metal parts ”, one of the company representatives wrote to the woman when she contacted them with a message.
The respondent also recommended not to trust the car history report, as the CarVertical reports contain a lot of misinformation.
“We have recently sold a couple of cars that have never been involved in traffic accidents and have always been used in Lithuania. I would suggest demanding the money I spent from them,” a company representative said in the message.
Data: from various sources
Matas Buzelis, content project manager for CarVertical and Delfi, said the report platform provides data on the vehicle being inspected, collected from a variety of sources.
“These are usually insurance companies, state registries, inspection stations, services, international associations, advertising portals and the like,” he said, highlighting that the car history verification platform does not evaluate the car, but only provides the data collected about he.
According to him, the reports generated are free of errors. However, if some data provider had incorrect data, this means that this will also be reflected in the history report. For example, if an insurance company records inaccurate data during an event, it will be reflected on the CarVertical platform. However, Mr. Buzel emphasized, these cases are very rare.
“We do not question the accuracy of the data. Our task is to provide data collected on each car from different countries and allow buyers or sellers to evaluate it more objectively,” emphasized the expert.
When asked to comment on the significant damage allegedly suffered by the BMW inspected in Germany, Mr. Buzel emphasized that if the damage to the car had been recorded and assessed in Germany, it had been done on the basis of German labor costs.
“And the way the damage is assessed depends on the methodology, the calculations, the details and the cost of the work of the insurance companies in that particular country,” Buzel said.
Ad removed
When Delfi contacted representatives of the BMW Krasta Auto dealer, they promised to clarify the information. During that time, the car sale advertisement was removed from the Autoplius.lt portal.
According to a written comment from BMW representatives that Krasta Auto sent to Delfi, a nasty, human error was made.
“We check the car again in several different systems and see that it was actually involved in a traffic accident in Germany, about which we had no information before.” Therefore, we immediately withdrew the ad and Krasta Auto refused to buy back the car from its previous owner, ”the response read.
The company clarified that repurchase is a common practice: the official dealer, after evaluating the car, its service history, buys it back from the customer and then sells it on the market with a guarantee.
Krasta Auto’s strategy is to sell only reliable used cars with a complete history, so that our customers feel comfortable buying a car from us. Therefore, due to the incident, we are taking additional measures and inspections, which will ensure that such cases are not repeated in the future, ”the company emphasized.
