15 minutes the reader who called said that he had seen at least some cars with water cannons heading towards the Rūdninkai landfill.
It may be a sign of unrest at the landfill, which took in 380 migrants on Thursday night.
However, Lina Laurinaitytė-Grigienė, Advisor to the Minister of the Interior Agnė Bilotaitė, said she could calm down; there are no disturbances at this time.
“Special equipment is coming, which has been planned. It is a barrage of water to cool men in hot weather if the blood accidentally boils. That was planned and is normal for a camp of the size planned here.
We keep our promises to the people, that is, we will ensure maximum security. And the water cannon will simply be there, it works very well as a preventive measure, “said the Minister’s advisor.
When asked if there are riots at the landfill on Friday afternoon, he reassures himself: there are no riots.
General Ričardas Pocius, head of the Public Security Service (VST), says the situation is under control.
“At our level, VST, there are no riots yet, everything is fine. The situation is manageable. They are constantly restless – stronger or weaker, so I can confirm that those riots will intensify. The more people, the more incompatibility, the more dissatisfaction, they will cling to anything, they will discover problems and cause discomfort, ”said R. Pocius.
The VST commander did not hide that the hostility of the local community does not facilitate the work either.
At a press conference held in the Seimas on Friday morning, representatives of the Rūdninkai community reiterated that they had been misled again, that they had promised to transport the migrants to the landfill only when the territory was finally prepared, and it happened differently.
Residents teach in their position that it is necessary to take care of the safety of the community, which requires adequate lighting in settlements, help buttons for the elderly, disabled people, adequate fences around the landfill, training of the Šalčininkai police station on how to take care of themselves.
The importance of information is also emphasized, so that the local population knows how many and when the migrants will arrive and can prepare for it.
The Interior Ministry affirms that the community was informed on Wednesday, when the Deputy Commissioner General of Police and the Deputy Secretary of the Interior met with their representatives.
“The first 380 migrants were taken to the Rūdninkai landfill on Thursday. On the same day about the transfer of illegal immigrants to Rūdninkai around 2:00 pm, the mayor of the municipality was notified.
They are constantly guarded by the Public Security Service. The police force will be strengthened in the locality, ”the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
