The new procedure, he said, would apply to both the sick and the exposed.

“The general conclusions of scientists have been presented, there are things so optimistic that people who have even been infected, but have mild symptoms, become non-infectious soon enough, it is about 10 days. We will review the isolation rules and it is possible that people who have even been infected had symptoms, that isolation will be shorter, “A.Veryga told reporters on Monday after the meeting of the Government’s COVID-19 Steering Committee.

According to the minister, the new isolation scheme has not yet been implemented, but the main criterion to use is “the presence or absence of symptoms.”

“The very principle is that it is important to assess symptoms. And it is important to understand that it is not 37 days, but a shorter period, when a person is contagious, ”he said.

According to A. Veryga, the new isolation procedure will be discussed with epidemiologists.

Under current procedure, a person is considered to have recovered from COVID-19 twice in a row for at least 24 hours. interval tests are negative.

The first test is performed on the patient no earlier than 14 days after the diagnosis of the disease, but no earlier than three days after the end of the fever.

In the absence of the test, the person is considered recovered 37 days after the date of the coronavirus diagnosis.

14 days of isolation are mandatory for those who have been in contact with the patient. It is also mandatory for arrivals from countries affected by the coronavirus, but isolation can be reduced to 10 days after a test and a negative response.

It is not considered tightening

A record number of new cases was confirmed in Lithuania on Saturday: 205 cases were detected per day. Another 160 new cases were reported on Sunday and about 125 new cases on Monday.

However, the minister says there are no plans yet to introduce new restrictions at the national level.

“So far we have not talked about tougher measures. Most of the cases are in certain foci. (…) With regard to national solutions, we still do not see one or two areas that stand out and that such an instrument specific can be adapted. If the disease spreads, we could first expect restrictions where there are meetings, where people gather, “commented A. Veryga.

He also said he did not expect the number of new cases to start to decline in the near future.

“It would be enough to look at other European countries, where we see that nobody is worried. There are not many preconditions for a decrease in cases, because the climate is cold, people are more and more indoors, so for some reason you could say that the number of cases should decrease, objectively not much. Except in places where many measures are applied ”, said the minister.

A total of 6,248 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Lithuania, 3,330 people are still ill and 2,793 have recovered.
