A 4,500-seat stadium could be designed in the Vilnius wine district, where national and international soccer matches would be held. Its feasibility study was presented at the Government Office on Monday.

It is clear that the former football stadium of the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences in the wine district (JI Kraevskio str. 2) will be handed over to the Lithuanian Sports Center and by 2023 it is planned to expand to 4,500 seats in the stadium of UEFA III category football.

The feasibility study emphasizes that the stadium must be accessible first and foremost, and that only the echoes and the necessary main parking personnel outside the stadium should be prepared. Also, by designing only one football stadium at this location, the recreation area next to the stadium could be expanded for Vilnius residents.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and the Sports Center of Lithuania will start to implement the idea of developing a football stadium in this place already in 2020. An investment project will be prepared. Construction work is scheduled to begin next year and construction of the football stadium will be completed in 2023.

The football community and fans in Vilnius and all over Lithuania have long been waiting for the implementation of these football infrastructure solutions, says Lukas Savickas, First Deputy Chancellor of the government.

As you know, in the spring, the Public Procurement Service (VPN) ordered the Vilnius city municipality to rescind the tender for the concession of the National Stadium Complex. The Vilnius government appealed to the court.

At the prosecutor’s request, VPT had temporarily prohibited the signing of a contract with a consortium of companies formed by the concessionaire Axis Industries. Eur, to be held during the negotiations, is reasonable and justified.

The evaluation of the VPN concludes that the adequacy of the concession contract has made it no longer in line with the concession concept and that the project could be executed through public procurement.
