An animal caught in the coastal meadows caused a storm of debate. Facebook users without special knowledge relied on the signature of well-known photographer Marius Čepulis on the photo that the photo lens captured a new species of invasive animal: the blue hunting dog.
“This animal is spreading from Africa. In Lithuania, it has been registered in several places: in Kaunas, Vilnius and on the coast. These are dangerous animals that cut people who do not learn biology,” M. Čepulis continued jokingly.
Erlandas Paplauskis, an ecologist at Seaside Regional Park, said he had not heard anything about the creature seen by M.Čepulis.
“In my head, it’s a bald fox,” said the biologist in the photo.
After receiving a call from journalists, M. Čepulis admitted that he was joking.
“It is an animal that has been tortured by scabies. Itch mites attack not only wild but domestic animals. But we can easily cure a pet that lives in the house, there are several remedies for scabies. And for wild animals it is more difficult. Itchy mites attack more dogs. ” dogs suffer from them, “explained M. Čepulis.
Often animals that suffer from mites do not survive.
“This is how it organizes in the wild. If an animal’s body weakens, parasites may make sure the animal doesn’t stay in the wild. It may not be so normal that there are so many tortured animals, but that it’s another matter. Thousands die from that. ” It is very possible that the entire species will become extinct, “said M. Čepulis.
The photographer assured him that his fox caught his attention by chance.
The photo shows a sick animal, and is also part of nature.
