Seimas member Laima Liucija Andrikienė told Knowledge Radio that Taiwan’s openness is the result of the country’s long-term foreign policy.
“I think Lithuania is acting very professionally in this case. That is why, when this mandate of the Seimas began to function, the first document in the field of foreign policy was the Seimas resolution on the strategic orientations of foreign policy. We say very clearly there that until now we have focused on China in that region. Unfortunately, our expectations have not been met and now we are concentrating on China, “said LL Andrikienė.
He said that although China has expressed dissatisfaction, the problem will be resolved in time.
“I hope the Chinese are smart enough to realize it; in this case, they are applying double standards,” the politician said.

Boruta: This is a rare Chinese move.
At the time, Raigirdas Boruta, an expert from the Center for Eastern European Studies (RESC), pointed out that such a Chinese decision is quite exceptional.
“In the case of China, this way of showing that China disagrees with this position is quite rare. “In particular, the Chinese press and Chinese analysts and experts from the Eastern European region call this a very rare and exceptional action, when China withdraws its ambassador from another country,” Boruta noted.
He noted that the last time the Chinese ambassador was called on Taiwan issues was in 1995 from the US, and he was generally rated by the local official press.
“This is described as the last step from the full consideration of the severing of diplomatic relations. This is one step below such diplomatic action,” commented the RESC expert.
Boruta explained that one of the reasons for China’s outrage was the plan to open an embassy on behalf of Taiwan, not Taipei.
“Other representations use the word Taipei. The case of Lithuania is quite exceptional, because we want to use the word Taiwan,” he said.
“While the United States has supported us in our plans to open a mission, it is very important to mention that Taiwan’s mission in the United States is called Taipei. Last year there were rumors that the United States is considering changing the name of the country, but the Taiwanese government has officially denied the rumors, “added Boruta.
