“During the inspection in the Jonava district, which was attended by SFVS inspectors, police officers, representatives of the Jonava district municipal administration and animal care organizations, acts of cruelty to animals were recorded. More than 20 dogs were kept in crate and cramped pits, some of them had mesh floors without mats and the storage was completely unsuitable for the dogs’ paws.
The caged dogs had no water at the time of inspection. During the initial inspection, it was established that 5 dogs had clearly visible signs of disease, that is, they were not provided with veterinary assistance, ”said Diana Daina Šutovienė, head of the Jonava branch of the Kaunas department of the SFVS, about the conditions encountered . in the hatchery.
The court decision was shocking
Even more than the conditions in the kennel, the guardians of the animals were surprised by the court’s decision: after several months of proceedings, it was decided to return the four-legged animals to the breeders.
The court found the multiplier guilty of cruelty to animals. She was fined € 700 without confiscating the animals.

The requesting authority, Kaunas SFVS, asked the court to order an additional measure of administrative offense: the confiscation of animals.
This was necessary given the housing conditions of the animals and the extremely poor condition of the quadrupeds.

Indrė Pileckienė, director of the animal care organization DogSpotas, which deals with more than 20 of the animals temporarily confiscated by this multiplier (another 8 are cared for by the Les refugio shelter and 10 by Nuaras), cannot understand the logic of such a decision.
According to the guardian, the court recognized that the breeder had treated the animals cruelly, a fine was imposed, but the temporarily confiscated dogs were returned to the man, whose behavior and torture threatened the animals with mutilation and death.
The caregivers were in serious condition
Animal keepers do not hide their frustration and question such a decision.
“Given that we know the condition of the animals that come from this breed from day one, we do not understand how such a decision could have seen the light in general,” said the director of DogSpot indignantly.
Most of the confiscated animals required one or another type of veterinary assistance needed immediately after taking possession, and some required drips.
The animals kept in dire conditions had neglected chronic diseases that caused excruciating pain.
“Due to the poor sanitary conditions in the multiplier, it was difficult to bear the stench even being next to the buildings where the animals were kept, and after all the animal rescue procedure, as we say, it would be easier to burn the clothes than wash them, “says I. Pileckienė.

“The animals were very neglected, most had severe diarrhea and a variety of parasites, all of which were confirmed by veterinary clinics. Not to mention that their activities were illegal, the breeder was unable to provide the necessary documents, the animals were not vaccinated and some of them were lost during the seizure – where they disappeared, the breeder himself gave no explanation or explained during the process. ‘I. Pileckienė said the course.
The court bases its decision on the hope that the multiplier will assess its behavior in a self-critical manner.
The case also indicates that the offending AP has already rented containers and purchased dog mats.
